Norm de Greve will serve as senior vice president and chief marketing officer for General Motors, the company said Wednesday.
The new CMO will start July 31, 2023, and report to GM President Mark Reuss. De Greve previously served as CMO for CVS Health, joining the company in 2015. GM touted de Greve’s bona fides, stating that he “helped transform [CVS Health] from America’s corner drug store to the largest consumer health care company in the country” during his tenure.
“Norm is an experienced marketing leader with a proven track record of building brands and supporting business growth in a digital world,” Reuss said in a statement.
De Greve replaces Deborah Wahl, who retired from GM in March.
Prior to his CVS tenure, De Greve held several positions with digital marketing firm Digitas from 2001-2014, including president of the company’s Boston and Detroit offices, where he worked on GM’s digital marketing efforts.
“His broad background, including time spent at Digitas working with GM, is the perfect fit as we continue our technology-driven transformation,” Reuss said.
GM may resume advertising on Twitter, according to the Detroit Free Press. The automaker hasn’t advertised on the social media platform since Elon Musk bought the company in October. But GM CEO Mary Barra said in June that the company would consider returning to advertising on Twitter after appointing a new CMO.
"Very shortly we’ll be announcing a new marketing officer and as Twitter comes on board (with new leaders) there’s a conversation to be had," Barra said at the Aspen Ideas Festival in Colorado.
GM recently agreed to use Tesla’s charging port to gain access to the electric vehicle company’s charging network.
De Greve holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Ithaca College and an MBA from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.
