Dive Brief:
- During a conference this week, Geely CEO Gan Jiayue said the automaker developed an AI-powered large language model that it plans to release later this year, Technode reported.
- The machine learning model will be integrated into Geely’s Galaxy L6, which launches in China later this year.
- Geely’s LLM will support voice commands for entertainment and other in-vehicle applications, including autonomous driving functions, for the L6.
Dive Insight:
Geely’s LLM is expected to be the first large-scale neural net deployed in the automotive industry, according to Technode.
In the future, the technology could greatly improve how autonomous vehicles operate. By integrating an LLM with a vehicle’s infotainment system, a driver could instruct a vehicle to change lanes or navigate to a restaurant using their voice. LLMs can also help a self-driving vehicle understand its environment, taking in complex information to make safe driving decisions.
Also this week, mobility technology company Ecarx, which Geely chair Li Shufu co-founded, announced it would be one of the first partners for the Enhanced Representation through Knowledge Integration LLM, a similar LLM in-vehicle cockpit application developed by technology company Baidu Inc. Ecarx plans to incorporate the capabilities of Baidu’s Ernie bot LLM into its intelligent vehicle ecosystem.
