David King will serve as the new chief technology officer for Fisker, effective immediately, the electric vehicle startup said Thursday.
King replaces Burkhard Huhnke, who left “the company for personal reasons,” according to a news release. The new CTO will report to founder and CEO Henrik Fisker and lead the automaker’s engineering and software teams.
“David has made major contributions to our engineering innovations and has provided dynamic leadership as we have moved into volume production and deliveries of the Ocean SUV,” Henrik Fisker said in a statement. “He will now bring his considerable experience to the task of leading the company into the next phase of its growth as we bring several new vehicles to market by 2025.”
King has had several roles at Fisker since joining the automaker in 2021. He most recently served as senior vice president of engineering. King previously led body engineering for the automaker, overseeing the development and launch of the Ocean SUV body programs.
Huhnke’s resignation comes after the fledgling automaker cut its annual production target this summer, citing supply chain problems that led to production issues. Fisker plans to produce 20,000 to 23,000 vehicles in 2023, saying in September that it plans to deliver 300 Ocean SUVs to customers each day by the end of the year. The company will report third-quarter earnings on Thursday.
