The Alliance for Automotive Innovation has named Sarah Puro as vice president of safety and technology policy, effective immediately, according to a February press release. Puro will be responsible for the organization’s safety and technology portfolio, which includes federal and state policy development and strategy.
“Automakers are testing, developing and integrating breakthrough safety technologies to help save lives and prevent injuries,” CEO John Bozzella said in the press release. “This work requires thoughtful policies and regular communication with policymakers and regulators.”
Puro last served as a senior advisor to National Transportation Safety Board Chair Jennifer Homendy. They previously held senior policy roles at the U.S. House Committee on Appropriations’ subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development. Puro was also a principal analyst for the Congressional Budget Office, developing budget projections for $130 billion in transportation spending and $48 billion earmarked for infrastructure spending as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
The Alliance for Automotive Innovation, also known as Auto Innovators, represents the auto industry, including automakers and suppliers, in all 50 states. Its members include General Motors, Ford Motor Co., Stellantis, Toyota Motor Corp. and others.
The organization’s initiatives address vehicle safety, auto industry emissions and innovation, such as automated driving and vehicle security.
“I look forward to continuing to pursue my deep commitment to making transportation safe,” Puro said in the press release. “The auto industry and government can work together in partnership to help make our roads safer for all.”
